●Biography- Marilyn Monroe was basically Hollywood’s glamour queen, but she was more then just a 50’s sex goddess. She was a very talented good looking young woman. She was born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California, to Gladys Baker. Her mother worked as a film-cutter at RKO. Her mother abandoned her to a number of different foster homes. Norma Jeane went though a lot when she was younger. She was almost smothered to death at two, nearly raped at six, and at nine years of age at the orphans home she would work in the back of the kitchen for only a nickel a month. Her years were not looking so great at that point in her life. Then in 1942 at the young age of only 16 Norma Jeane married a man named Jimmy Dougherty. A man that she had been dating for six months. He then joined the army real fast and she modeled. The camera loved Norma Jeane, and within two years she was a reputable model with many popular magazine covers to her credit. She also had been studying the work of legendary actresses Jean Harlow and Lana Turner, and enrolled in drama classes with dreams of fame. When James returned home from the army Norma had to make a huge decision to stay with her marriage or start her dream career. Norma Jeane divorced Jimmy in June of 1946, and signed her first studio contract with Twentieth Century Fox on August 26, 1946. Soon after that Norma Jeane made some big changes. She dyed her hair blonde and changed her name to Marilyn Monroe (using her grandmother’s last name) and started her career and became a star. |
